Lloyds Register EMEA Certified - 5 tonne Man-Riding Hoist

With new regulations it is no longer possible to use standard hoists for man-riding applications, so SCX Special Projects has created a unique 5 tonne Man-Riding Hoist that has been independently assessed and certified to carry personnel by Lloyd’s Register EMEA.

The hoist’s increased safety factors make it suitable for man-riding access applications such as entering silo shafts. True vertical lift provides additional stability for the user(s).

Featuring a fully man-riding certified, battery operated, independent recovery hoist, the system provides reassurance that the load and personnel can be safely rescued in the event of a problem with the primary hoist or a mains power failure.

With heavier capacities and faster lifting speeds than alternative cradle systems, SCX Special Projects’ man-riding hoist provides a greater degree of flexibility and is more suitable for high integrity applications.

To ensure users’ safety, SCX Special Projects’ system features a number of advanced safety attributes, including an independent brake unit on the main hoist; increased safety factors on the rope; the use of Lloyd’s approved materials; and full design justification, all fully Lloyds Register EMEA Certified for man-riding applications.

The system features an independent battery-operated 5 tonne recovery hoist, which can override the primary hoist, enabling the rig to be rescued in the event of a breakdown or power failure. This hoist is also certified as man-riding in case of emergency and is operated by a hold-to-run pushbutton.

Upper limit switches prevent over-hoisting whilst lower limits control the descent. Both hoists are fitted with mis-spooling devices to ensure uniform take-up of rope and a smooth lift. True vertical lift provides additional stability for the user(s).

Either hoist can be pendant controlled by a supervisor or driven from an HMI by the user, dependant on the application. Control can be disabled via a key switch to prevent unauthorised use and pendant/s can be removable for additional security. The system also features an E-stop in case of emergency, plus securely located adjustable speed dials and reset controls for re-activation following operation of the recovery hoist.
